Digital Accessibility Foundations (IT Academy 2-day course)

We are excited to offer an in-person component to this Digital Accessibility Foundations class!

This class takes place over the course of TWO days: in-person on Tuesday, October 18 and virtual on Wednesday, October 19. Attendance is required for both days to receive credit for attending. 

Day 1 - Tuesday, October 18: IN-PERSON session held at 124 Mt. Auburn St. in Cambridge, MA. Class will be held from 9AM-4PM in room 3318. There will be NO virtual option this day. Lunch will be provided; please let us know of any dietary restrictions prior to October 12, 2022 by emailing

Day 2 - Wednesday, October 19: VIRTUAL sessions held via Zoom:

  • Session 1: 9am-11am
  • Session 2: 1pm-3pm

This course is part of the IT Academy, but is open to all and recommended for anyone and everyone at Harvard. It provides an overview of digital accessibility and includes a number of activities for which your laptop will be required.

This course will cover: 

  • Introduction to accessibility – gain understanding about the meaning, history, and importance of digital accessibility, and the types of disabilities that people experience. 
  • Assistive Technology - explore a variety of technologies that people use to access digital content. 
  • Accessibility Policies and Practices at Harvard - hear more about Harvard’s Digital Accessibility Policy, Accessible Technology Procurement and Development Policy, and the recent Captioning Settlement Requirements.
  • Accessible Content, Code, and Design - learn about core concepts of accessibility in web design and document creation.
  • Tools for Assessment - discover and try out automated tools and manual checks for accessibility. 
  • Next Steps and Resources - reflect on shared resources and learn about concrete actions you can take to incorporate accessibility into your workflow.
